Sysmä village and the area nearby with many smaller lakes and rivers, islands and eskers charm everyone who likes to explore nature. The area’s canoeing routes offer varying routes tens of kilometres long for both beginners/courses and more experienced canoers/shared day trips. The versatile waterways fulfil the dreams of trolling, spinning and fly fishermen.
The area’s forest and esker landscape offer hikers diverse and varied hiking trails. The closest ones are situated nearby KIVITATTI, in the island of Päijätsalo.
In winter, some of the area’s paths are used as ski tracks, not forgetting the possibilities for skiing, ice-fishing, snowmobiling or snowshoeing provided by frozen lake Päijänne in the glimmering spring sun!

Summer activities
Enjoy the quietness of the Päijätsalo island during the summer by swimming, fishing, boating, biking or hiking. There is a four(4) kilometre long trail situated in Päijätsalo island and a sightseeing tower(build 1n russian times 1899 but renewed in 2000) from which you can admire the beautiful landscapes of Lake Päijänne.
Lake Päijänne and other lakes and rivers nearby offer great possibilities for fishing! If you are interested in joining to a guided fishing trip, please check the web pages of Etelä-Päijänteen Kalastuspalvelut and Erämaan Kutsu (Call of the wild). Some island horses liked to be ridden near Päijätsalo in the forests.

Lake cruises:
Every Thursday between 3.7.-2.8.2012 at 2.00 pm from Sysmä’s Suopelto harbour with M/S Elbatar. The duration of the cruise is 2 hours. More information about timetables and prices: Elbatar.

The municipality of Sysmä is also known for its cultural sights and events. Places worth to visit are: St Olaf’s Church, old Theatre House and for example Sysmän Suvisoitto “Sysmä Summer Sounds” music festival. More information about the festival: Sysmän Suvisoitto.

Winter activities
At winter time the most popular activities are skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling in the frozen Lake Päijänne. There are also two skiing tracks (2 km and 7.5 km) situated in Ohrasaari area.
Closest familiar skiing centre is situated near Hartola, approximately 40 km from Sysmä. More information about this skiing centre: Purnu Skiing Centre. More famous skiing centre is Lahti/Messilä, 60 km from Sysmä.

Actual Marinetek Oy builds a NEW MARINA in Suopelto, near the bridge to Päijätsalo Island. New Marina should be completed by summer 2012 and it makes possible for sailing- and motorboattravellers at Lake Päijänne to stay overnight in Kivitatti bed & breakfast (b&b).
